Update for March 10th 2009. Well we went from frozen to flooded in a matter of a couple days, just got started back on the fish last wed. afternoon with lots of slush untill around 1:30 pm, same on thursday, and at least friday there was no slush in the morning, but all the lower ends were locked up untill late in the day on friday. Saturday found us in very lower Conneaut Creek fishing out of the boat, and even with the mild weather we still had to play ice-breaker to get where we wanted to go. Fishing was no big deal each day with a mix of new and older fish, and well spread out may I add. With three of us fishing each day we could only muster up 25-30 hook-ups each day, and that was fishing all day each day and covering lots of water. Hopefully for all of us, the rain will stop and the waters will recede, and allow us to get on, what will probabely be the first major big-time push of fish of the spring. I know I will be ready. Will you?
GOOD-LUCK to EVERYONE

Fishing Report for the week of Feb. 15th-22nd. Mother Nature continues to deal a up and down hand to all of us who want to get a jump on this springs Steelhead season. As I returned to Conneaut, Ohio on monday, the the stream was just coming into shape. On tuesday morning Conneaut Creek was full of slush, so off to Elk Creek in Pa., but the lower end was locked up with slush and ice, so back to Conneaut we went, upon returning around noon she still was full of slush, so down to the river we went to fish in the popsicle water. Much to my suprize the fish were fairly active with several being hooked in the first spot that we stopped, with most of them being fresh adult fish, and fighting very well, for the very cold water that they were living in. In the second spot we found them a little more spread out, and some searching around was required, but once they were found it was game on once again, and with the slush being gone the fishing was much easier. Tuesday the 17th greeted myself, Gary, and Jim with great conditions on Conneaut Creek, we fished several spots in a run and gun senario, and were able to capture and release several fish, with a mix of fresh and holdover fish in our catch. Here's Jim with a dandy from lower Conneaut Wed. we were greeted with snow and high dirty water, which pretty much put a early end to our week of fishing. Saturday , fished for about a hour in the Ashtabula river and hooked enough to feed the addiction. Sunday, today did not fish stayed indoors a put a couple custom rod orders together. Guess we'll half to see what mother nature throws our way Good luck and good fishing, Ratboy |
